TORANA WINS BATHURST

A FORD HERO has returned a Holden icon to the top step of the podium at Mount Panorama in Bathurst.

John Bowe a long-time devotee of the blue oval won Sunday’s third race to win the seventh round of the 2015 ENZED Touring Car Masters after a seven-lap straight fight with Steven Johnson’s Ford Mustang.

Starting from pole Bowe led into turn one and then had to hold out Johnson for all seven laps of the race – Bowe ultimately edging out his own car in a down-to-the-wire finish.

With Jim Richards finishing fourth for the round Bowe has now closed to within five points of his long-time rival with the pair to battle for the TCM ProMaster class title at Phillip Island this November.

Eddie Abelnica finished third today to secure the same position in class for the round while Brett Youlden and Jim Richards battled furiously for fourth and fifth for much of the race including a breathtaking sequence where they ran side-by-side through turns two and three.

Richards ultimately grabbed the spot Youlden recording fifth overall and comfortably winning the ProAm class on his TCM comeback.

Mark King finished sixth one position ahead of Rusty French who recorded his best finish of the season with seventh in the Skye Sands Ford Mustang.

French – who made his Bathurst debut in 1968 – drove the race of his season to hold out both iSeek Racing Torana driver Jason Gomersall and Shelby Mustang steerer Cameron Tilley.

Paul Freestone rounded out the top ten today to cap of a strong weekend for the Victorian driver.

Outside the top 10 Glenn Seton failed to start the race after dropping on to seven cylinders on the formation lap thanks to a faulty spark plug whilst Tony Karanfilovski was a non-starter with a gearbox issue in his Mustang.

For the round Tony Edwards won the ProSports class thanks to victories in race one and two.

16 year old teenager Adam Garwood took the class victory in the third and final race finishing 12th overall.

Brett Youlden led Cameron Mason and Rusty French home in the ProAm ranks class leader Cameron Tilley fourth overall at a circuit that doesn’t quite suit the six-cylinder Valliant’s relative lack of grunt.

The final round of the 2015 ENZED Touring Car Masters will see the series return to the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit in late November for the Rare Spares Phillip Island Tourist Trophy.
