SETON SWITCH AT THUNDER ROAD RACING IN 2017
THE FAMOUS SETON surname will remain on the Touring Car Masters grid in 2017 – but it won’t be Glenn behind the wheel. ÂÂ
Thunder Road Racing Team Australia has confirmed that Glenn Seton’s 18-year-old son Aaron will replace the double Australian Touring Car / Supercars champion in the team’s Ford Mustang for the 2017 season.
“I suppose it was inevitable that Aaron was going to pinch my drive at some point!†Glenn Seton joked.
“I’m actually really happy for him because it’s the next step for what he wants to do in his career driving a heavier car with a smaller tyre and learn that technique.
“I’m proud of what he has achieved so far and next year will be a good step in his career. I’ve had a fantastic time driving for Don Dimitriadis and Thunder Road Racing Australia and I’m thankful to them for giving Aaron this opportunity.
“It’s probably the only time I’ll be happy to give up my seat to him!â€Â
Team Owner Don Dimitriadis said he was looking forward to continuing the relationship with the Seton family – and giving the younger generation an opportunity.
“We set this team up with the intention of giving young guys a go so to be in a position to put Aaron in the car next year is what we are all about.
“He is an exciting young talent and will be embarking on the next phase of his career as he works towards his career goals. Hopefully we can play a big role in that in giving him the opportunity to drive a car with lots of power and not much grip.
“Thanks to Glenn’s work he’ll be driving a very well developed and set-up car and it is exciting for us to show that TCM can be for the younger guys as well.â€Â
Aaron Seton has quickly followed in the footsteps of his famous father and grandfather rising through the ranks of junior categories in recent years.
Following a successful season in Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge this year he has raced competitively in both the Toyota 86 Series and the Australian Production Car series.
“I’m really looking forward to jumping in the Mustang. It will be a great experience and another car that will help develop my skills.. even if I had to push Dad out of the way!†Aaron Seton said.
“Don (Dimitriadis Thunder Road Racing team owner) has been awesome putting all of this together and I’m looking forward to working with him next year.
“The TCM cars are a lot more like a Supercar than what I have driven before which will be a step forward and help me gain experience and develop as a driver.â€Â
The third-generation Seton has grown up with his father racing names like John Bowe Glenn Seton and Steven Johnson – and says it’s exciting to compete alongside them next year.
“They’re big names in the category and I’m looking forward to racing alongside them and seeing how I go. I can learn a lot from them because they’ve got so much experience.â€Â
Thunder Road Racing had their best ever TCM season in 2016 – one that included a second-place finish in the ProMaster championship two pole positions four race wins and the round victory at Queensland Raceway.
The 2017 TCM season starts on the streets of Adelaide in early March at the Clipsal 500.
