Bright credits team work to first up TCR win

Jason Bright has credited his team to its successful maiden race win in the car sales TCR Australia Series at Sydney Motorsport Park today.

Bright was one of the first high-profile Australian touring car drivers to publicly state his interest in the series. Diligent research and the subsequent purchase of the two ex-Team Engstler Volkswagen Golf GTIs was followed by an alliance with Matt Stone Racing, and the result has spoken for itself.

“It’s been a busy few weeks for all the teams, no one really knew where they were going to sit,” he said.

“We’ve worked as hard as anyone and it’s a credit to our team for getting us here.

“I feel like I’ve found a sweet spot in the setup and the car’s been strong all day.”

Bright says that a rule clarification around the minimum weight helped move him move forward after a disappointing Friday practice

“We weren’t happy with where we were after practice yesterday,” he said.

“There were some clarification in the rules so we were able to take more weight out of the car for today, so it goes to show how critical it is to get all those little things right because of how tight the field is.”

The unique short, sharp gaps between the races will be a challenge for some teams and drivers. however, Bright says that the first few gear changes will be crucial.

“The two races tomorrow will be pretty intense,” he said.

“Obviously there’s a fair bit riding on the start and we made a good one today but that’s no guarantee we’ll make a good one tomorrow.

“I’m sure Tony and Will are going to improve overnight so we’ll try and lead into turn one again and hopefully control the race like we did today.”

Races 2 and 3 will be held in Sydney tomorrow between 1-3pm AEST. You can catch the action live, free and in HD on SBS or watch the livestream here on TCRAustralia.com.
