Alex Rullo buoyed by Holden Astra developments

Young guns Alex Rullo and Chelsea Angelo have made an encouraging start to the carsales TCR Australia Series in their Holden Astras, but Castrol Racing’s Rullo insists there’s more to come from the Kelly Racing squad in the second half of the year.

Neither Astra has made it onto the podium at the opening two rounds of the series, with a best result of fifth for Rullo in Race 2 at Phillip Island.

The former Supercars racer has shown plenty of potential in the Astra package, and says that continual gains from the Kelly Racing team has given him and Angelo confidence heading to the next round at The Bend Motorsport Park.

“It wasn’t really how we planned to start the year with the Astra, but the team at Kelly Racing and I are getting our heads around the car and making improvements every time we hit the track,” said Rullo.

“We made a big step forward at Phillip Island but there’s still a long way to go to get to where we want to be.

“One of the biggest things we’re battling at the moment is understeer, and it shows especially in long, high-speed corners.

“We’re also making adjustments to aero and other things to try and get some more straight-line performance from the Astra.

“At the moment we’re consistent, finishing every race and sitting eighth in the championship, but a top five result by the end of the season is definitely achievable.”
