VIDEO: Big crash highlights Practice 1 at The Bend

A big crash between Will Brown and James Moffat has been caught on Brown’s in-car camera, showing how heavy the impact was between the two cars.

Brown lost control of his Hyundai i30 N on the approach to Turn 6, slamming into the back of James Moffat’s Renault Megane.

Brown, who currently leads the carsales TCR Australia Series, was disappointed with the incident.

“I was just behind James Moffat heading into the hairpin at Turn 6,” he explained.

“I was five-to-six car lengths back and moved to the left to get out of the spray and as soon as I touched the brakes I aquaplaned. I tried to turn away on the wet and slippery track but I collected him and that was that.”

Moffat’s GRM team is now in a race against time to repair the car. It will not be out on track for the second session today (starting at 3:30pm local time), but the team is currently sourcing parts from Melbourne to get the car on track for tomorrow.

“It’s definitely not the ideal way to start the weekend here at The Bend Motorsport Park,” he said.

“The conditions were pretty tricky and young Will Brown was caught out by it, aquaplaned and centre-punched our Renault pretty hard. Will came down and saw me straight away and was very apologetic which was good of him, but hopefully our guys at GRM can fix the car and we can get back out there tomorrow.”
