Garth Tander to make TCR Australia return at Sandown
Champion touring car ace Garth Tander will make a return to the carsales TCR Australia Series at Sandown this weekend.
The three-times Bathurst 1000 winner will drive the #3 Audi RS 3 LMS, previously driven by his racing wife Leanne Tander. The car will feature primary support from Valvoline.
Tander has already competed in two rounds of the inaugural TCR Australia Series at Phillip Island and The Bend Motorsport Park. His best result was a win – Audi’s first in Australia – at The Bend.
Confirmation of Tander’s driver puts the total grid at 17 cars.
Tander won’t be lacking for race laps at Sandown this weekend either. The 42-year-old will complete double duties, driving alongside Geoff Emery in the Audi Sport Team Valvoline R8 GT3 in the Australian GT Endurance Championship.
The Sandown weekend kicks off on Friday with two practice sessions, followed by qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday and Races 2 and 3 on Sunday.
All races are broadcast live, free and in HD on SBS, as well as the livestream.
QUOTES
Garth Tander
Driver, #3 Audi Sport Team Valvoline
“It is great to be back in TCR. We’d always looked at Sandown as one of the circuits that would suit the Audi, so I’m glad this opportunity has come up,” said Garth Tander.
“I think it will be an interesting challenging. We haven’t been to a track where you have to use the kerbs, because as we know, that’s the fastest way to get around Sandown.
“And it’s good to get some miles under my belt leading into the Bathurst 1000 next month. We know the pack battle in TCR is tight, the competition is tight and the competition is competitive so it’s great top get amongst that again and keep myself race fit.”
