Chelsea Angelo set for TCR Australia return in Kelly Racing Astra
Chelsea Angelo will return to the carsales TCR Australia Series grid for the final round at The Bend Motorsport Park this weekend.
After competing in the opening three rounds of the series at Sydney Motorsport Park, Phillip Island and category’s first event at The Bend, Angelo will again drive a Kelly Racing Astra.
The only change will be a switch of chassis, driving the team’s second car while Andre Heimgartner uses the car that Angelo competed with in the opening three events.
In the nine races that she contested, her best result was a trio of 12th places – one at each of the three circuits she raced at.
Angelo will line-up alongside the team’s regular star Heimgartner who has proved the speed of the nimble Astra in the past two events. The fast New Zealander qualified on the front row of the grid at Winton and held the lead in one of the races there. He crossed the line third in the last race at Sandown, only to cop a post-race time penalty for passing under yellow flag conditions.
The Kelly Racing Astras have seen a number of drivers race the cars, including Alex Rullo, Hamish Ribarits and Bryce Fullwood.
The final round of the carsales TCR Australia Series will kick off with two practice sessions on Friday, followed by qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday and two races on Sunday.
The TCR Australia Series, as well as the all-new S5000 open wheel class can be seen live, free and in HD on SBS, as well as the live stream produced by the Shannons Nationals.

“It’s really cool to come back for The Bend,” said Chelsea Angelo.
“We did the first three rounds, which was cool to be a part of a new, exciting category.
“Since I’ve been out, Andre has taken over and seems to have fixed the problems that the Astras were experiencing. The car should be quick and we’ll have some fun.
“I’ve done a couple of races in the Hyundai Excel class since then too, so I feel that my front wheel drive experience has improved too. Obviously, the TCR cars are a lot more full-on than an Excel, but it has definitely helped me stay sharp.
“Hopefully this is a restart to my TCR career. I’m not sure what is going to happen for 2020, but I want to finish the year off really strong. Right now, there’s nothing confirmed, but I’m open to all options.”
