Fluorescent feels for Michael Clemente’s Honda Civic TCR

Michael Clemente has revealed a fluorescent orange, black and white Honda Civic Type R for his maiden TCR title tilt this year.

The former Hyundai Excel champion took the covers off his Honda at the Geelong Kart Club today, giving some young karters the first chance to see his new racer.

The Honda, raced in 2019 by the likes of Jordan Cox, Jordan Michels, Tim Brooke and Nestor Girolami, features major support from Wurth, Hi-Tec Oils and McDonalds, among others.

The livery was designed and appalled by Adelaide-based sign writers Check it Out graphics who flew into Melbourne to apply the bold look.

“I absolutely love it. Asher and Simon from Check it Out have done a killer job,” said Clemente.

“They came in from Adelaide on Friday and worked on it all of Friday and Saturday and they’ve done a brilliant job.

“I couldn’t be happier. The black, the white and the floro orange has all come together really nicely.”

The 2020 carsales TCR Australia Series marks Clemente’s first full-time campaign in a top-line national series, and he says that he is not putting too much pressure on himself or his privateer team in the opening half of the season.

“We have some expectations for the end of the year, but for the first couple rounds, we need to settle in and find our feet,” he said.

“We won’t be going for wins and podiums at the start.

“I’m sure we’ll get there in the end, but there will be lots to learn and it will take some time.”

The 20-year-old also says that the opening event of 2020 – the carsales TCR Asia Pacific Cup – will be a highlight.

“It’s a new track for me, so it will be something different,” he said.

“We are up for the challenge on a fast flowing circuit in front of a lot of people, so it’s going to be awesome.”

The next time Clemente’s Honda, and the rest of the TCR Australia field come together will be for the pre-season test at Winton Raceway on Wednesday, February 26.
