carsales secures its own entry in ARG eSport Cup

They are the naming-rights sponsor of the ARG eSport Cup, and with that, has come their own entry in the new online series.

carsales.com.au’s editor in chief Mike Sinclair will take up a spot on the grid in the opening round of the carsales ARG Cup, kicking off at Mount Panorama, Bathurst, this Thursday.

Sinclair, a racer in his own right, will drive the #4 carsales-backed Audi in the 10 round series, using the iRacing software to keep a range of drivers from different disciplines on the track while real racing is halted due to the coronoavirus.

Drivers from TCR Australia, S5000, Touring Car Masters, Trans Am and V8 Touring Cars will compete in the unique series, broadcast live on Facebook and YouTube.

Speaking on the new podcast Parked Up, Sinclair says that he is under no illusions of the level of competition that he will face.

“I’m sure I’m going to have a prominent role in these races, especially the reverse grid races!” Sinclair joked.

“Like most people who have driven race cars most of their life, I’m terrible on the sims, but I’ve been working with the guys at Motum Simulators, and they’ve done a huge amount of work on their simulators. With the virtual reality goggles and the movement, they are quite natural and you can get your head around it.

“I have no doubts that I’ll be the slowest, but I will enjoy being a part of it.

“In the current environment, if you want to go racing or watch racing, this is how we are going to do it. So for the time being, it’s what we’ll have to get our jollies out of.”

The opening round of the carsales ARG eSport Cup will start at 8pm AEDT.
