Jack Perkins secures TV role for Shannons Championships broadcast

Racer, commentator and family race car restorer Jack Perkins will join the broadcast team for the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championship on the Seven Network.

Perkins will be part of a strong line-up of callers that will include long-time broadcast talent Greg Rust.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is no clear start point for the championships that will include TCR Australia, S5000, Touring Car Masters and more. However, plannings continue to unfold behind the scenes in anticipation of a start, and the full commentary line-up will be confirmed in shortly as part of those plans.

While Perkins is better known for his own driving and being the son of Bathurst legend Larry Perkins, Jack is no stranger to duties behind the microphone. He has held a long-standing role with Network Ten, including being a part of its Australian Grand Prix coverage. He also filled in for Shannons Championships coverage last year at Phillip Island and Sandown.

On top of his commentary role, Perkins is scheduled to compete in the Supercars endurance races with 23Red Racing alongside Will Davison.

After becoming a father for the first time recently, Perkins is looking forward to the racing season getting underway and joining the team on the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championship coverage on Seven.

“That’s something I was really excited for,” Perkins told the Parked Up podcast.

“I got to fill in for a couple of the events last year and really enjoyed being part of the product and the show. The racing was something new to Australian audiences, and to be a part of it was fantastic.

“The second season was only going to be bigger and better, and I know the competitors and teams and owners are incredibly keen to get that series back on track.

“It’s a period of uncertainty, but once it gets going it’s going to be fantastic to watch. I’m looking forward to being part of it.”
