Peugeot driver Aaron Cameron led the opening stages of the race, until Cox regained the top spot midway through the 22-lap encounter to claim his maiden win.

Yesterday’s race winner Lee Holdsworth finished second, while Chaz Mostert took his Audi to third place, ensuring his first podium in the turbo-charged touring car class.

The race would be neutralised by a Safety Car for a short period after a tangle between Michael Caruso’s Alfa and Dylan O’Keeffe’s Renault at the end of the first lap.

Caruso’s Alfa fired across the front of the Renault, slamming into the pit straight wall and ending Caruso’s race.

Another incident of significance was for Jay Hanson (Alfa Romeo) and James Moffat (Renualt). Moffat clouted into the back of Hanson at the hair pin, ruling both out with damage.

After Cameron was ruled out with a mechanical issue, Cox and Holdsworth raced away to first and second, while Hyundai driver Josh Buchan showed great speed again and was threatening for a podium. The young Sydneysider lost his chance at a podium when he run wide and allowed Mostert to secure the final spot on the dias.

Mostert’s team-mate Luke King ended fourth, from Hyundai’s Nathan Morcom and Buchan.

Completing the top 10 were Brad Shiels (Hyundai), Jason Bargwanna (Peugeot), Tony D’Alberto (Honda), and Ben Bargwanna (Peugeot).

The final TCR race of the weekend is due this afternoon at 15:25 AEDT.
