Lee Holdsworth blazes to fastest time of Friday in Practice 2

Lee Holdsworth has set the fastest time of the day in the second Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series practice session at Mount Panorama today.

Holdsworth, driving his Alfa Romeo, faced off with the Audi RS 3 of Chaz Mostert in the closing stages of the session as they traded fastest sector times, with Holdsworth piecing it together best.

Jordan Cox was the early pace-setter, laying down a 2:16.586s to lead the first runs of the half-hour encounter.

The Garry Rogers Motorsport driver spent most of the session in the pits, while others improved, before returning to the track with minutes to spare.

Dylan O’Keeffe vaulted to second and was followed up the leaderboard by Mostert in third, but they were both demoted a position when Holdsworth went to the top, punching in a 2:16.102s.

The next time around O’Keeffe brought the lead advantage down to a tenth of a second as he moved into second position.

When the chequered flag flew all eyes were on last-minute flying laps, with Mostert delivering on a 2:15.998s to go fastest.

But Holdsworth was not letting the Audi RS3 driver claim Friday honours, beating him by almost two tenths on a 2:15.809s as the Ashley Seward Motorsport-run Alfa Romeo proved two seconds quicker than the best effort from Practice 1.

Mostert held onto second position followed by the Renault Megane RS of O’Keeffe in third.

Aaron Cameron was a solid fourth at the wheel of his Peugeot 308, with Cox rounding out a competitive top five, which was separated by less than a second at the end of the proceedings.

Qualifying for the TCR cars is scheduled for 07:40 local time on Saturday.
