Privateer Volkswagen ace returns for Sydney Motorsport Park

Privateer Volkswagen Golf GTI driver Lachlan Mineeff will return to the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series for Round 4 at Sydney Motorsport Park on May 1-2.

After missing the recent round at Mount Panorama while focusing his attention on his Bathurst 6 Hour entry that ultimately claimed Class D honours, Mineeff is excited to return his focus to TCR at his home track.

After making a solid debut in the turbo-charged touring car class at Phillip Island where he scored 10th, 12th and 13th across the three races respectively, Mineeff is looking forward to competing at Sydney Motorsport Park.

“We missed the opening round at Symmons Plains, so were weren’t in the championship hunt, which is why we elected to miss the Bathurst round as well and put our energies into the 6 Hour,” Mineeff explained.

“And I’m glad we did that, because we had a great result and won our class.

“Sydney Motorsport Park is a home round for us and we are looking forward to it. We have had a test day there, and we’ve got another one coming up at Wakefield Park too, so we couldn’t be any better prepared for it.

“With the form that we showed at Phillip Island, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be challenging top 10 results.”

After securing the car at Phillip Island from former caretakers Melbourne Performance Centre, Sydney’s event will mark the first time that Mineeff’s newly-named team ‘Purple Sector’ will run the car under its own steam.

While the car, its maintenance and logistics are now 100 percent in his own hands, Mineeff will continue to enjoy a level of technical support from MPC.

“We’ll have all of the same crew and personnel with us like we had at Phillip Island, the only real difference is that we now take on the transport and logistics,” he explained.

“So this will be our first round as a full private entry, but its great to know that MPC is there for assistance when and if we need it.

“Heading into Sydney, we have a lot more experience, including the test days, so we should be in a good position.”

In other news, Mineeff is giving away a hot lap in his Volkswagen Golf GT TCR at Wakefield Park on April 19. Anyone who registers to drive their own car at the upcoming Track School track day at the Goulburn venue on April 19 will instantly go in the draw to ride alongside Mineeff in his turbo charged Golf rocket. The Sydney Motorsport Park Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships event will feature nine racing categories, including the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, the VHT S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship, Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters and the National Trans Am Series.
