Hyundai privateer gets early look at Morgan Park in i30 N TCR

Hyundai privateer Michael King has enjoyed his first laps around Morgan Park Raceway as the excitement builds towards the next round of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series on August 13-15.

The New South Welshman completed a full day of running in his Hyundai, and was looking forward to racing his turbo-charged car around the Queensland venue, only for the change of date to clash with his mother’s 70th birthday celebrations.

Despite the fact that he will miss the August race, King was thrilled with the test and fell in love with the circuit.

“We’d booked in the test, and even though we knew that we weren’t going to be able to race on the new date, we took the chance and I’m glad I did,” said King.

“The track is unreal. It’s a hidden secret and a great little facility.

“There are some really technical parts, and I tried 1000 different lines over the course of the day. It’s similar to Wakefield Park, but just a bit longer.”

King predicts that the nature of the circuit will lend itself towards hard and fast racing, and possibly the potential for damage.

“You have to get it right at certain points of the track because there is not a lot of run off,” he said.

“There’s a couple of corners there where two-wide will be dangerous. There’s some good overtaking opportunities, so you’ll have to confident under brakes and getting the car in the right spot. If you have confidence, you’ll be able to pull it off.

“If you get the exit right, the good guys will shine, but I think if you are over confident and get it wrong, you’ll be paying for it.

”It’s going to be interesting. I just really hope that Morgan Park gets on the calendar next year. That will make our test worthwhile.”

King confirmed that he will compete in the following two TCR events at Sandown and the Bathurst International, scheduled for November 26-28.
