Dylan O’Keeffe describes shift at Garry Rogers Motorsport
It’s been nearly three weeks since Garry Rogers Motorsport announced multiple V8 Supercar champion and NASCAR Cup race winner Marcos Ambrose as its Competition Director, but his impact is already being felt within the team.
GRM fields seven Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series entries spread between Alfa Romeo, Peugeot and Renault, is the lead constructor of the S5000, while also being involved in the National Trans Am Series.
Dylan O’Keeffe combines his driving duties in the team’s Renault Megane RS TCR with working at GRM’s Dandenong workshop where he has viewed first hand how Ambrose is implementing changes.
“In such a short time he’s already had a big impact in the work ethic and the environment he wants to create within the workplace,” O’Keeffe explained.
“He’s definitely a racer and it’s cool to see. For us to see it as well, he really wants to get us going and it’s just different set of eyes.
“Someone with that experience coming in to see how we operate is just gold.”
This season, GRM has scored wins with Alfa Romeo and Peugeot, while the Renaults struggled early on this season before finding form at Sydney Motorsport Park where O’Keeffe scored pole. Problems on the grid forced O’Keeffe to start from pit lane, but he recovered to be contesting for the podium in Race 3 before he was relegated due to a restart infraction.
O’Keeffe expects the Renaults is confident the Renaults will continue improving during the back half of the season as further development is completed during this mid-season break.
“I guess we’ve got small goals that we want to achieve before the year is out, so it’s an exciting place to be and I’m looking forward to get back racing, it feels like it’s been forever,” said O’Keeffe.
“This mid-year gap with not only Marcos coming onboard, provides an opportunity to do some solid work to the cars and review important parts that may have been overlooked if we were racing with short gaps.
“Now there’s no excuses and I’m really looking forward to getting some results on the board.”
The next round of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will be held at Morgan Park Raceway in Queensland on August 13-15. CLICK HERE for ticketing information.
