Maiden Pole Position for Ben Bargwanna at the Mountain

In an action-packed two-part qualifying session, Ben Bargwanna secured his maiden Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series pole as two frontrunners will be ones to watch from the back.

It’s been 20 years since his father Jason conquered the Mountain, the Garry Rogers Motorsport Burson Garage driver set a scorching pace in his Peugeot 308 TCR to set a 2m 14.8922s to edge stablemate Michael Caruso in his Team Valvoline Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by 0.2273s.

In his newly upgraded Mobil 1 Wall Racing Honda Civic Type R TCR, John Martin placed third and will line up alongside the fast starting GRM Team Valvoline Peugeot 308 TCR of Aaron Cameron.

RESULTS: Supercheap Auto TCR Australia, TCR Bathurst 400, Qualifying

James Moffat in the LMCT+ Racing Renault Megane R.S. is fifth alongside Bathurst local Brad Shiels in the privateer Tilton Racing Hyundai i30 N TCR, while rounding out drivers to set a lap were Melbourne Performance Centre’s and series leader Chaz Mostert in the Bostik Audi RS3 LMS TCR, Jason Bargwanna’s GRM Burson Peugeot and Luke King in the second MPC Audi.

A tyre problem for King sent the Audi into a spectacular lose at The Chase after he had placed seventh in the opening segment.

Dylan O’Keeffe elected to sit out the second segment of qualifying after finishing 10th in his Lowbake Racing Renault Megane R.S.

During the opening session as the Alfa Romeos of Jordan Cox and Jay Hanson endured turbo problems, while Lachlan Mineeff bought out a late red flag as his Purple Sector Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR went off at Hell Corner.

Supercheap Auto TCR Australia debutant Keegan Brain failed to set a lap after his Purple Sector Golf GTI TCR was repaired following an incident yesterday.

This afternoon’s opening race is scheduled for 4:25pm AEDT, where it will be live on Fox Sports and Kayo.
