Running two Volkswagens a success for Purple Sector

In its first trip to Bathurst, Purple Sector took on the added challenge of running two Volkswagen Golf GTI TCRs as newcomer Keegan Brain joined Lachlan Mineeff for the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia finale.

Purple Sector crew were challenged early after Brain crashed during opening practice when he hit oil, however the team recovered as both entries finished all three races, highlighted by a sixth place for Mineeff in Race 2.

Reflecting on the week, Mineeff was excited by the possibilities of running multiple Volkswagens in the future.

“It was a pretty cool experience,” he remarked.

“It was a fairly good weekend, we had a hiccup at the start with the car finding the wall, but I think that really demonstrated how good our team was to get the car repaired and back out.

“To finish all three races with two cars was great, there were a lot of experienced teams that couldn’t do that, so I’m really thankful for the team we’ve bought this weekend and we learnt a lot over the duration.

“Missing the Bathurst round earlier this year put us on the back foot, but by the end of the weekend we were really competitive and ready to go from there.

“It was a fantastic experience and something we aim to do in the future.”

Purple Sector is enjoying a growing relationship with Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series winning team Melbourne Performance Centre. Through this, Mineeff eyes an opportunity through his Volkswagen program.

“It’s fantastic to have the support of Melbourne Performance Centre and we’ve seemed to gel well with the Volkswagen, which really works with our sponsors and our network,” Mineeff explained.

“We’re really confident in the VAG product, so we can’t wait to see where it all takes us.”
