“The first day for the new Toyota Corolla TCR. Spectacular work done by the whole team, it’s a great car,” Rossi disclosed through his social media channels.

Plans were hatched last year for Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina to construct the manufacturer’s first official entry into TCR using the sedan variant of the Corolla, joining its programs in local categories TC2000 and Top Race.

Permission was granted to homologate and develop the Corolla into a TCR in April this year, however work had been well underway beforehand ahead of its debut and customer rollout in 2022.

WSC President Marcello Lotti was delighted by Toyota’s TCR confirmation.

“Six years have been passed since TCR was launched and new manufacturers are still joining!” he said.

“We now welcome the arrival of Toyota, a giant of global automotive that has always been deeply involved in motorsport activities.

“The appointment of Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina for developing, building and marketing the Corolla TCR marks another important milestone in the success of the TCR concept.”

Now the Corolla TCR has broken cover, it is expected full details will be revealed soon ahead of an intense testing program held during the TCR South America off-season.

Race Tasmania will again begin the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series in 2022 at Symmons Plains, supported by the S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship, the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series and awesome local categories.
