First TCR entries arrive for AWC Race Tasmania
The first of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australian entries have arrived at Symmons Plains ahead of the second running of AWC Race Tasmania this weekend.
Braydan Willmington’s squad was among the first of the teams to arrive at Symmons Plains this week as he debuts in the ex-Garry Rogers Motorsport Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR driven to two victories at the corresponding event last year by Jordan Cox and acquired by the squad prior to Christmas.

Following in the footsteps of father, long-time touring car privateer Garry, Willmington sampled the Alfa Romeo in a pre-season test at Sydney Motorsport Park and was left impressed by its performance.
“It was good and a lot different to the S5000,” he remarked.
“It’s a lot of fun to drive, it handles well, it’s got more than enough power and just an unreal car to drive. I reckon they will be great in a big field.
Expectations are measured approaching AWC Race Tasmania for Willmington, but he hopes to be leader of the privateers.
“If we can put the Alfa in the top 10 at my first event I’ll be stoked,” Willmington said.
“We just have to see how long it takes to get our heads around the car. I have been to Symmons Plains before, so it should be a good event and we’ll just to work hard to be as consistent as we can.
“I don’t know where we we’ll sit because I ran on old tyres just learning the car at our test in Sydney, so I haven’t had a proper crack in it yet.
“We’ll see how we go on Thursday.”
In what is an extremely strong field, Willmington isn’t daunted by rivals such as current star Will Brown, Fabian Coulthard, Tony D’Alberto, Michael Caruso and James Moffat.
“Going up against some big, notable names is always a challenge, but in the end it makes you better because you know where you stand,” he explained.
“I’m no stranger to driving world class drivers, I did that in speedway where I lined up alongside Kyle Larson a few times.”
Liam McAdam also arrived early this week from Queensland in what will be his first event since the Easter meeting at Bathurst last year.
The opening round of the 2022 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will be held at Symmons Plains Raceway for the second running of the AWC Race Tasmania on February 11-13.
