Supercheap Auto TCR Australia field gets better for Bathurst

A tight title contest, the Mountain and more than 20 entries arrive at Bathurst for the third round of Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.

Just two-points separate Honda Wall Racing’s Tony D’Alberto from Swyftx GRM Peugeot driver Jordan Cox entering the annual Easter trip to the Mountain.

Others to consider include privateer Zac Soutar, who scored his best result at last year’s Bathurst finale and sits third in the points. Although fourth in the standings, Fabian Coulthard is missing from the grid and Tim Slade will instead deputise for the recent race winner in the Stan Sport Wall Racing Honda Civic Type R TCR.

Driving the sole-latest generation Audi RS3 LMS TCR in the southern hemisphere, Jay Hanson is expected to be strong alongside teammate LIQUI MOLY-supported Will Brown, but hasn’t driven a TCR model at Bathurst.

Cox’s Peugeot teammates Dylan O’Keeffe, Ben Bargwanna and Aaron Cameron will be quick. At last year’s second event, Bargwanna scored a maiden pole position and Cameron went one better than the earlier Easter meeting to take the opening race victory.

HMO Customer Racing will aim to bounce back following a disappointing Phillip Island round, as Josh Buchan, Nathan Morcom and Bailey Sweeny enter Bathurst hoping to regain their Symmons Plains form.

James Moffat was fast at the Mountain last year, but luck deserted him in the LMCT+ Racing GRM Renault Megane R.S. TCR as teammate Kody Garland hopes to build on his racing experience from Phillip Island.

Alfa Romeo won twice at the season-ending meeting last year and the Ashley Seward Motorsport Giulietta Veloce TCR of Michael Caruso is expected to be a contender after a mixed start to his year.

Joining Soutar in the privateer ranks are Royal Purple Racing’s Brad Shiels in his Hyundai i30 N TCR, Braydan Willmington in his Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR and Michael Clemente’s Ryco Filters-supported Honda Civic Type R TCR.

Luke King will also join the privateer brigade as he links up with DashSport for the remaining rounds driving its Hyundai i30 N TCR starting at Bathurst this weekend.

After starring in qualifying at Phillip Island, Liam McAdam and his Audi RS3 LMS TCR are missing this round.

Supercheap Auto TCR Australia begins its third round at 8:50am Friday, April 15 as part of a bumper Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour event during the Easter long weekend.

Turtle Wax Trans Am Series, MRF Tyres Australian Pulsar Racing Association, NSW Historic Touring Cars and NSW HQ Holdens complete the bill.

All of the action will be live, ad-break free and on demand exclusively on Stan Sport in Australia.
