International aid part of Luke King’s comeback
Making his Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series return at Bathurst was as much a relief as a learning curve for Luke King.
Aligning with the privateer DashSport squad and its Hyundai i30 N TCR for the remaining rounds of this season, King leaned on an international contact to provide advice as due to the late completion of the deal he was unable to test.

“I’ve been on Whatsapp with Lewis Kent, who is TCR UK champion and we were connected through a mutual contact helping us overseas,” said King.
“Through our chats, we’ve spoken about what the Hyundai should feel like and how he sets up the car in the UK, which is very helpful.”
King has previously revealed his aims to head overseas in TCR and through these discussions has discovered the regard for the series down under is very high.
“People I’ve spoken to associated with touring car racing overseas including WTCR have said TCR Australia is one of the highest ranked domestic categories of all of them around the world and most watch it,” King explained.
“When new drivers such as Fabian (Coulthard) come in, it gives everyone a yardstick of how competitive this category is.”
Making his comeback at the Mountain with support from Zip Pay and Moutai, King described his first meeting since Bathurst last year as a ‘baptism of fire’.
“To finally get a deal done after it all started to come together, then to have a clean weekend with some good, hard racing and learnt all the lessons we have, I think we’re in a pretty good spot,” King explained.
“We’ll definitely do a test before Sydney and make sure we’re prepared for that, plus we’ve got a pretty good tyre bank to take there.”
Sydney Motorsport Park hosts the next round of the series and Hyundai is the form marque at the venue having taken four out of six victories in the two-times the category has visited the venue.
A promising statistic for King.
“That’s part of the reason we went for the Hyundai,” King revealed.
“Now I’m gelling with it, I know how it needs to be driven, I know what it’s going to do at some high speed corners, so it should be fun at our home circuit.”
The Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series headlines the third round of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships where fellow Australian Racing Group categories the S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship, Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters and Turtle Wax Trans Am Series feature.
Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, the Australian Production Car Series, Radical Cup and the Australian Prototype Series complete a stacked program of categories.
