Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series to celebrate 50th race at Queensland Raceway
The Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will rack up its 50th race at Queensland Raceway this weekend.
Sunday’s Race 2 will mark the 50th race milestone, just over three years in the making.

The series started in May 2019, with the very first race won by former Bathurst 1000 winner Jason Bright. Since then, TCR Australia has ridden the waves of COVID closures and border lockdowns. No races were held in 2020, only five rounds were held in 2021, but still, the two litre turbo charged series has come out the other side and will record its half century race.
In the 48 races held so far, a staggering 19 different drivers have won races, with inaugural series champion Will Brown the winningest of them all having crossed the line first on seven occasions.
Hyundai is the most successful brand with 13 race wins.
Queensland Raceway heralds the second half of this year’s Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, with Honda Australia’s Tony D’Alberto holding a 24-point advantage in the standings from Dylan O’Keeffe in the Schaeffler GRM Peugeot.
That points gap is, in fact, the largest gap between any of the top 12 runners, with just 105 points covering the top dozen.
O’Keeffe won two races at the venue in 2019 in an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR. The Peugeot package this year has proven to be well rounded following a record run at Bathurst.
Winning last time out at Sydney Motorsport Park, Josh Buchan enters Round 5 in good form at a circuit HMO Customer Racing scored solid results at three years ago. In what is set to be a tightly contested conclusion to the season, Buchan is just nine-points in arrears of O’Keeffe, and holds a solitary point advantage from fourth placed Jordan Cox in the Swyftx GRM Peugeot.
Queensland Raceway is where Cox’s relationship with Garry Rogers Motorsport started three years ago, which has since resulted in five Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series victories.
Fifth in the standings is Jay Hanson making his Queensland debut in the latest specification Audi RS3 LMS TCR and is closely matched on points with Team Valvoline GRM’s Aaron Cameron in another of the Peugeots.
Nathan Morcom enjoyed one of his stronger rounds during the inaugural season at Queensland Raceway and just like HMO Customer Racing team-mate Buchan, won last time out in Sydney.
It’s been an impressive season so far from Spicers Australia-supported Honda privateer Zac Soutar, but he enters a race weekend with no prior TCR experience for the first time in 2022.
LIQUI-MOLY Team MPC’s Brown is the most winning driver in Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, but Queensland Raceway was not one of his best rounds in his series-winning season and he needs improved results to enter title calculations.
Burson Auto Parts Racing’s Ben Bargwanna, the 2021 rookie of the year, completes the top 10 and is another to not have TCR experience at the Ipswich circuit.
Other drivers to watch out for are Michael Caruso in his Autoglym-supported Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR, which was the victorious model twice in 2019, and impressive HMO Customer Racing rookie Bailey Sweeny, who will be aiming to rebound following a disappointing event in Sydney.
Supercheap Auto TCR Australia action begins with two 30-minute sessions on Friday before two-part qualifying and three 21-lap races conducted across the weekend at Queensland Raceway.
The SpeedSeries at Queensland Raceway will feature seven racing categories and 12 hours of live and ad-break free coverage on Stan Sport across Saturday and Sunday.
The coverage will be broadcast on Stan Sport between 11am-5pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
