Local Will Brown tops opening practice in Queensland

MPC Team LIQUI MOLY Audi driver Will Brown has topped the timesheets in his Audi RS3 LMS TCR at his home event as Supercheap Auto TCR Australia returned to the track at Queensland Raceway following its mid-season break.

Brown recorded a 1m 13.767s lap to edge out series leader Tony D’Alberto in the Wall racing Honda Australia Civic Type R TCR by 0.013s as the top 11 entries were covered by less than a second.

LMCT+ GRM’s James Moffat was just 0.250s off the pace in his Renault, while privateer Zac Soutar continued his impressive form in fourth driving the Spicers Australia-supported Honda Civic Type R ahead of Valvoline Racing GRM driver Kody Garland in the second Megane RS TCR.

Sixth and in the lead HMO Customer Racing Hyundai i30 N TCR was rookie Bailey Sweeny ahead of the first Garry Rogers Motorsport-prepared Peugeot 308 TCR of Swyftx’s Jordan Cox, who just shaded GRM Team Valvoline stablemate Aaron Cameron.

Completing the top 10 were the Autoglym Ashley Seward Motorsport Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR of Michael Caruso and winner last time out in Sydney Nathan Morcom in the second HMO Customer Racing Hyundai.

Just missing out on the top 10 was the Moutai/ZIP PAY Hyundai of Luke King, who led title contender Dylan O’Keeffe in the Schaeffler GRM Peugeot.

Lachlan Mineeff making his debut appearance in the ex-LM Motorsport Audi RS3 LMS TCR was 13th from the fourth GRM Peugeot of Burson Auto Parts-backed Ben Bargwanna, Jay Hanson in his newer model, Iain McDougall’s Challenge Motorsport example and Michael Clemente’s Raceline Motorsport Racewear Honda Civic Type R TCR.

Third-placed in the title, Josh Buchan rounded out the field in the third of HMO Customer Racing’s Hyundais as a gearbox leak hampered his session.

Supercheap Auto TCR Australia again hits the track at 5:50pm AEST.

The SpeedSeries at Queensland Raceway will feature seven racing categories and 12 hours of live and ad-break free coverage on Stan Sport across Saturday and Sunday.

The coverage will be broadcast on Stan Sport between 11am-5pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
