Dominant Queensland performance further enhances Tony D’Alberto’s title credentials

It was the weekend Honda and Tony D’Alberto had promised as it finally came true at Queensland Raceway last weekend.

And it’s not just because D’Alberto scored his maiden Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series victory.

Dominant performances in two of the three races extended D’Alberto’s lead in the standings to 58 points, while he was ably backed up by privateer Zac Soutar in the Spicers Australia Honda Civic Type R TCR to score a 1-2 for the Japanese manufacturer in the pair of events.

“What an incredible weekend – pole position, two race wins and we’ve extended our series lead. I just couldn’t ask for anything more,” D’Alberto summarised.

“I’m so happy for Honda Australia and Wall Racing, we’ve been pushing for this result for a long time. The team executed everything perfectly over the weekend and it’s a great reward for all the people involved.”

Returning to the revamped circuit for the first time since 2019, it may prove a pivotal round in the series as many of D’Alberto’s title rivals stumbled.

“We’re getting to the business end of the series now with just two rounds remaining, so to extend our series lead is crucial,” D’Alberto said.

Next on the calendar is Sandown next month where on Supercheap Auto TCR Australia’s last visit Honda’s Argentinean ace Nestor Girolami dominated proceedings to take a clean-sweep of victories.

D’Alberto’s consistency this year has been unmatched and he’ll need to continue this at his home circuit as he aims to finish the season strong to score the title.

“We will be carrying a little more success weight for the next round at Sandown in six weeks, but we’ll be doing everything we can to push for another good result,”

“We can’t let off at all now, so we’ll immediately turn our focus to getting the most out of the car for the final two rounds at Sandown and Bathurst.”

The next round of the SpeedSeries featuring the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will head to Sandown on September 16-18.
