Lachlan Mineeff’s tough Audi initiation

After making the transition from Volkswagen to Audi during the mid-season break, Supercheap Auto TCR Australia privateer Lachlan Mineeff experienced a mixed debut of the ex-Liam McAdam RS3 LMS TCR at Queensland Raceway.

Mineeff just missed the top 10 in qualifying after logging just one test day prior to his Audi debut, but penalties at the close of Race 1 left him ninth and a front-row berth for the second encounter.

However, a problem ahead of Race 2 forced Mineeff to start the Forza Brakes Motorsport Purple Sector Audi from pit lane. Although dropped to the back of the field, in fresh air Mineeff demonstrated the Audi’s capability and is confident Sandown will be much suited to the German package.

“It was a tough Sunday at Queensland Raceway,” Mineeff summarised.

“Race 2 we were due to line-up in second, but a technical issue meant we had to start from the pit lane, ending up 10s behind the field.

“We moved through from 18th to 13th with the third fastest lap. We consistently lapped faster than the leaders and I would have loved to have known what I could have done from the front. That one hurt, but we have the speed to burn, and our chance will come again soon.

A further drama in the final event of the weekend left the Audi beached in the Turn 2 sand trap. Although it proved a disappointing end, Mineeff is confident the Audi package will enable him to move up the field.

“Race 3 we started ninth and I made a good start,” he recalled. “I hung around the top 10 all race until an issue put us out with three laps to go.

“A bit of a heartbreaker, but we are so excited to see what we can do as a team with a super competitive car now, so roll on Sandown.”

Sandown hosts the penultimate round of Supercheap Auto TCR Australia as part of the SpeedSeries on September 16-18.
