Friday practice ends with Jay Hanson fastest

Rain interrupted the second practice session at Sandown for the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series as MPC AWC Racing’s Jay Hanson put his Audi RS3 LMS TCR at the top of the timesheets.

Hanson set his time of 1m 14.957s early in the session as Autoglym-supported Ashley Seward Motorsport driver Michael Caruso was just 0.031s in arrears driving his Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR.

Series leader Tony D’Alberto was third in the Honda Wall Racing Civic Type R TCR from opening practice pacesetter, HMO Customer Racing’s Bailey Sweeny and privateer Lachlan Mineeff driving the Forza Brakes Motorsport Audi RS3 LMS TCR.

The Spicers Australia Honda Civic Type R TCR of Zac Soutar was sixth from Will Brown in the LIQUI MOLY Team MPC Audi, the Valvoline Team GRM Peugeot 308 TCR of Aaron Cameron, the second HMO Customer Racing i30 N TCR driven by Josh Buchan and Luke King’s Moutai/ZIP PAY privateer Hyundai completed the top 10.

Iain McDougall in the Challenge Motorsport Audi just missed a top 10 berth as James Moffat was the lead Garry Rogers Motorsport Renault Megane RS TCR in the LMCT+ entry from the Valvoline Racing GRM example of Kody Garland and Swyftx GRM Peugeot driver Jordan Cox.

A spin for Cox at Turn 9 necessitated a red flag after he was bunkered in the gravel trap.

Completing the field, privateer Honda driver Michael Clemente, Schaeffler GRM Peugeot’s Dylan O’Keeffe, the repaired Burson Auto Parts Racing entry of Ben Bargwanna and Nathan Morcom in his HMO Customer Racing Hyundai.

The battle for Astrontech Pole Position will kick off with the all-in qualifying session at 11:35am AEST before the top 10 fight for the $1000 cheque at 11:55am AEST.

Supercheap Auto TCR Australia’s opening race commences at 4:20pm AEST live on Stan Sport and 9Gem.

The Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will contest three races at Sandown as part of the SpeedSeries event also including the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS, Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters and the final round for the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series.
