AFL star and NRL legend enjoy a spectacular TCR ride

Sandown’s inclement weather provided a more than exciting opportunity for current Melbourne Football Club star Christian Salem and NRL legend Billy Slater to ride with two of Supercheap Auto TCR Australia leading drivers.

Salem has just come off another finals series campaign with Melbourne following a drought breaking premiership with the Demons last year, while Slater was a superstar for the Melbourne Storm and the Queensland Maroons of which he led to this year’s State of Origin as Head Coach.

In an AFL vs NRL style match race conducted in the wet at Sandown, Salem was paired with series leader Tony D’Alberto in the Honda Wall Racing Civic Type R TCR and Slater rode alongside HMO Customer Racing’s Josh Buchan in the Hyundai i30 N TCR.

In what was a thrilling contest in tough conditions where the passengers were fully immersed by the driver’s skill and reactions, the battle went down to the wire.

Both emerged from the TCR machines shocked, surprised or possibly scared from the experience, but enjoyed it nonetheless in what was a unique one provided by the weather.

D’Alberto remains in the series lead following Sandown as Buchan is fourth in the points approaching the final round at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International on November 11-13.
