Josh Buchan reflects on ‘crazy’ Sandown

HMO Customer Racing’s Josh Buchan remains in title contention after a chaotic round of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series at Sandown.

Buchan left the historic Melbourne circuit with three top 10 finishes and sits fourth in the standings, 93-points adrift of series leader Tony D’Alberto heading to the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International finale.

Just falling short in a spectacular final race of scoring a podium, Buchan highlighted the Hyundai i30 N TCR’s all round capabilities.

“It’s been a crazy, crazy, crazy few days at Sandown for the penultimate round,” he summarised.

“The car was really good straight out the truck in practice one and I only wish it remained dry so the weekend could have run more smoothly than what it did.

“But, nonetheless, we had some good results and I could have nabbed a podium in the final race if I had got clear of some of the slower cars earlier in the race. But it was a little bit fickle to get by without causing an incident. So, I just had to let the race come to me and chip away.

A previous bogey track for Hyundai, Bathurst provided HMO Customer Racing with one of its best rounds during Easter as rookie Bailey Sweeny took his maiden win and Buchan backed up with two trips to the podium.

With new found confidence at the Mountain, Buchan believes he can push D’Alberto for title considering there will be more points on offer than at past events.

“I’m now really looking forward to the last round at Bathurst, especially as we’re not carrying any weight penalties this time around,” Buchan explained.

“We should be quick up there, and if the luck goes our way, instead of the way it has missed us a few times this year, then we should be on for a good result.”

In association with Hyundai Australia, Supercheap Auto and HMO Customer Racing, the team’s sponsor Nulon has launched Project i30 N. The series will follow the build of an i30 N into the ultimate weekend warrior as tuned by one of Supercheap Auto TCR Australia’s leading teams, which at the end one lucky Nulon customer will win.

The series finale will take place as part of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International. Tickets are on sale now. CLICK HERE to secure your place in history for the newest motorsport event at Mount Panorama.
