Jordan Cox calls for public to get behind Wakefield Park petition

Leading Supercheap Auto TCR Australia driver Jordan Cox is pleading for all New South Wales residents to sign the ‘Save Wakefield Park’ petition to keep the popular rural circuit open.

Recently, the Goulburn track was shut down after a local council ruling.

The closure has been met with widespread disappointment from drivers, teams and fans alike.

While there has never been a TCR race at Wakefield Park, it has been used frequently by NSW-based teams for testing, including HMO Customer Racing, Wall Racing and other privateer entries.

Note that only New South Wales residents are eligible to sign the petition.

New South Welshman Cox, currently second in the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia title race with one round to go at Mount Panorama as part of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International, says that it is a crying shame that Wakefield Park has been closed and wants to see it reopened to retain its needed place within the Australian motorsport landscape.

“NSW has the largest motorsport competition base and we only have one permanent, full length race track left in Sydney Motorsport Park,” said Cox.

“Wakefield Park has been a great track to attend for not only motorsport teams, but track day enthusiasts and general race car enthusiasts.

“Not only is it an important part of people’s businesses, but it’s a very popular place for car hobbyists.

“There’s always been something cool about having a weekend away in Goulburn to go car racing. The track needs to be saved, and I want to encourage everyone that can to sign the petition.

“It’s a great track too. I rate it better than many other similar tracks.

“It is short but flowing and narrow with some tricky braking areas. It definitely has its place in the Australian motorsport landscape.”

The petition to keep Wakefield Park open closes tomorrow (Friday, October 28).
