An engine change following the second practice session forced due to a loss of power will necessitate the Aussie to start from the back. Cameron qualified regardless and was within striking distance of Frenchman Teddy Clairet, who is also a ‘pseudo’ teammate.
It follows a couple niggly problems during opening practice as a speed sensor hampered his run during the opening practice session driving the new Peugeot 308 TCR.
“After a tough first practice on Friday, we hoped to resolve our issues and hit the ground running for Practice 2,” Cameron explained.
“It Wasn’t to be as our engine issue was still there. I pushed on through the session to still focus on improving what I am doing on the track and keeping the car within track limits.
“On the data after the session, it was clear that the engine was a long way off where it needed to be as my teammate Teddy Clairet and I were exit corners the same, but he pulled away a lot by the end of the straight.
“It was about 10km/h loss on very long straight which there are four of plus the few smaller ones at the Paul Ricard circuit.
“The crew made quick work of a complete engine change in about two and a half hours ready for qualifying.
“For me, the session had very little point as I have to start the race from last because of the engine change.
“I still wanted to see the speed I could get out of the car and adjust to the fact I now needed to brake earlier in most corners as I was arriving a lot faster than I was used to.
“My lap altogether put me a few tenths off Teddy which I was pleased with ahead of the races tomorrow.
“Focus now is to pick off as many people as possible in Race 1 so I can have a good position to attack for the feature race.”
Cameron will contest two events tonight, a Qualifying Race at 9:30pm AEDT before the Main Medal contest at 12:30pm AEDT.
