Brown and Soutar Audis repaired for Sunday TCR races
Will Brown and Zac Soutar will return to the field for Races 2 and 3 of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series at Symmons Plains Raceway today.
The drivers of the two brand-new Audi RS 3 TCRs were ruled out of yesterday’s first race after the pair broke an identical component in the driveshaft.
With no spare parts available, Melbourne Performance Centre has found a local solution, and according to Soutar, some engineering ingenuity will see both of the fast new Audis return to the track today.
“The spline broke on the differential that comes off the end of the driveshaft,” said Soutar.
“There are no spare parts in the country, so we thought we were out for the weekend.
“The guys at MPC have found someone locally in Launceston to fix up the broken parts with some pretty special engineering, and fingers crossed it will hold for today’s races.”
Both Brown and Soutar will start from the rear of the grid for today’s first reverse top 10 race. Fellow Audi drivers Michael Clemente and Lachlan Mineeff will start from the front row of the grid, having finished ninth and 10th yesterday.
Hyundai ace Bailey Sweeny won the opening encounter from reigning champion Tony D’Alberto and Peugeot driver Kody Garland.
Race 2 will start at 1:30pm AEDT.
