Bargwanna taken out, but shows strong form at Spa

BEN BARGWANNA was taken out of the first Kumho TCR World Tour race at Spa Francorchamps, however remains positive about the experience racing at the iconic circuit.

Here’s what Ben had to say about his Saturday at the iconic Belgian circuit.

“Certainly an awesome but tough day at the track,” He said.

“In Qualifying we didn’t get the most out of the car. My first run had bad traffic on all 3 flying laps so I didn’t really get to maximise the tyre or get a great lap time in.

“Then we pitted for fresh tyres. We found some time and improved 2 secs from FP2, even with big oversteer moment on my fastest lap.

“I felt a third run, if time allowed, would have improved enough to make it to Q2, still we ended up 17th with time on the table, so we were still very happy as the times are really close.

“Race one got off to a crazy start: I was already up a few positions and feeling good. I was right in the mix of a 5 car battle back that included Azcona. The car felt great, I was up to 13th and managed to keep it clean throughout lap 1 and I was ready to fight.. but unfortunately, in an ambitious move by one of the other Hyundai’s, I was taken out at La Source at the beginning of lap 2, a moved that also took out Azcona.

“Despite Borkovic receiving a penalty, it was our day done.

“The guys are working hard to repair the car and we will now start tomorrow from p16. I think we have a strong race car, so who knows what Sunday brings!”

The final race of the Spa event will be broadcast live, ad-break free and on-demand on Stan Sport this evening at 7:20pm AEST.
