RaceFuels leading sustainability drive in Aussie motorsport fuels

RaceFuels, the official fuel provider to key categories including the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series and Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, is leading the charge towards the introduction of sustainable racing fuels to key Australian competitions.

The Melbourne-based company has begun the process of importing fully sustainable fuel products to Australia for evaluation and use, including presenting the products to Motorsport Australia ahead of their potential introduction to local categories.

RaceFuels is the Asia-Pacific distributor for ELF Racing Fuels, the well-known motorsport company that is owned by parent, TotalEnergies.

Since 2022 TotalEnergies supply their 100% renewable fuel, Excellium Racing 100, to several key events and championships around the world – including this year’s Le Mans 24 Hour, with the field entirely powered by the sustainable product.

Excellium Racing 100 is made from bioethanol which is produced from the waste from French vineyards.

This waste is collected and processed into bioethanol through a series of production steps, including fermentation and distillation.

The bioethanol is then blended with a range of renewable components to create a high-performance motorspirit that meets the strict requirements of the FIA for use in motorsportsthe new sustainable fuel’s specification lines up with the current standard petrol version.

The Excellium product has already been utilised by customers in New Zealand, with RaceFuels now keeping the product in stock for local use.

With Australian categories like TCR and GT World Challenge closely linked with their global brethren, RaceFuels are getting ahead of the curve to prepare for the local introduction of the product.

“By investing in sustainable fuel options, we can help reduce the environmental impact of racing while still delivering the high-performance products the industry requires,” said Mark Tierney Director of RaceFuels.

“By working together, we can create a more sustainable future for the motorsports industry and beyond.

“By importing 100% sustainable fuel, RaceFuels is not only demonstrating its commitment to sustainability, but also to provide the industry with innovative and environmentally responsible solutions.

“As the demand for the transition to sustainable fuels continues to grow, RaceFuels is well positioned to meet the sustainability needs of the Australian motorsport industry.”
