Cameron Paces the Field in Practice 1

The field hit the track for the first of two 30-minute practice sessions this weekend, for the opening round of the 2024 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.

Ben Bargwanna and Tony D’Alberto traded fastest sectors early on, with D’Alberto fastest after five laps by 0.04s. Zac Soutar was up to third after 10 minutes of running, ahead of Tom Oliphant and Ryan Casha.

The red flag came out with 18 minutes remaining after Will Harris became beached in the gravel trap at turn nine. The session resumed with 12 minutes to go.

Aaron Cameron flew to the top ahead of Garry Rogers Motorsport teammate Bargwanna, as a flurry of improvements came after the session got back underway. The green flag lasted six minutes before another red flag interruption. This time it was Nirwan who found the gravel at turn nine and had to be recovered.

A short three lap dash to the end didn’t see much in the way of change at the top, with the top five finishing up as Cameron, Bargwanna, D’Alberto, Soutar and Buchan.

The top 10 was rounded out by debutant Ryan Casha, Jordan Cox, Tom Oliphant in his new HMO Customer Racing home, the returning Dylan O’Keeffe and Brad Harris.

Practice 2 takes place at 2:00pm.
