Sandown Practice Sweep for Cameron

Aaron Cameron has completed a sweep of the Friday practice sessions at Sandown for round one of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.

The Garry Rogers Motorsport driver needed just four laps to set the quickest time of the session, though he was challenged closely by Honda Wall Racing’s Tony D’Alberto with the pair separated by 0.0248s at the end of the session.

An improvement late on saw defending champion Josh Buchan vault to fourth for HMO Customer Racing, in behind Ben Bargwanna. Jordan Cox rounded out the top five, making it a productive day for the GRM crew with three of the top five cars.

Clay Richards was sixth for Carl Cox Motorsport, with Zac Soutar seventh for Tufflift Racing. Soutar’s teammate Glenn Nirwan was forced to sit out the second session, after damaging a gearbox in Practice 1.

Ryan Casha, Dylan O’Keeffe rounded out the top nine which was covered by just 0.5459 seconds, with Brad Harris in 10th.

On combined times, it leaves Cameron fastest from Bargwanna with D’Alberto in third. Soutar and Buchan round out the top five.

The field will roll out for the freshly updated two-part qualifying tomorrow, in which six drivers will progress from the first session to a final session and a shot at the Astrontech Pole Award.

The action for Saturday and Sunday will be live and free on 7plus, with all three races live on 7mate as well.

“It’s great to be back, GRM and Team Valvoline, everything has been great over the break and the crew are doing an awesome job prepping the cars,” said Cameron.

“Certainly a good start to the year, we usually go pretty strong here and all the other Peugeot’s are really fast so good signs leading into qualifying tomorrow,” concluded Cameron.
