Bargwanna Takes Dominant Victory in Sandown Opener

Ben Bargwanna has charged to his second career victory in Supercheap Auto TCR Australia, winning by 5.9418 seconds over pole-sitter Josh Buchan.

Buchan led the field through turn one, but an early move from Bargwanna around the outside of turn 11 elevated the Garry Rogers Motorsport car to the front of the field. Iain McDougall stalled off the line, dropping him to the back before ultimately retiring after five laps.

Tony D’Alberto was on the move up the order, starting from fifth and climbing to third by the chequered flag, crossing the line behind Buchan.

After starting in an equal-best second, Zac Soutar brought his Tufflift Racing #110 home in fourth. Jordan Cox passed the most cars, as he rose from 15th on the grid to finish in fifth.

An almighty battle for 10th spot, and the ensuring reverse grid pole for race two, unfolded and was resolved in favour of John Martin after a fair share of classic touring car racing with Tom Oliphant, in his first outing for HMO Customer Racing.

Other notable results included sixth for TCR Challenge driver Brad Harris, seventh on debut for Ryan Casha and 13th for Aaron Cameron after late trouble for his Peugeot while running in third.

Race two of the weekend commences at 2:05pm local time, live on 7mate and 7plus.
