TCR Ranking Update: Soutar Breaks into Top 50
Separate from the battle for points supremacy in the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, the drivers are locked in battle for their place in the TCR World Ranking.
Based on the results of the TCR World Ranking, which ranks every TCR driver competing in various national and regional TCR Series across the globe, the top 45 drivers will be invited to compete in the TCR World Ranking Final.
Originally scheduled to take place in March, the event has moved to a new date in the final third of 2024 and will be recognised with an FIA title. The event will also be dedicated entirely to customer drivers from the global TCR pyramid, with World Tour participants not eligible for the final.
The venue and date set to be confirmed soon, with the winners also set to be given the opportunity to celebrate their success at the FIA Prize-Giving gala in December.
The ranking of each driver is calculated based off their last 20 results, while a coefficient is applied based on the type of competition. As a National TCR Series, TCR Australia receives Coefficient A4, with a final multiplying factor based on the number of cars in the field.
Reigning champion Josh Buchan is currently the highest ranked Australian driver, sitting 23rd in the global ranking. Off the back of his double victory in Queensland, Tony D’Alberto has climbed five places to 28th. The final active TCR Australia driver within the top 50 is points leader Zac Soutar, who leapt up 12 places in the most recent ranking update to sit in 47th.
Ben Bargwanna (77th), Jordan Cox (85th), Tom Oliphant (90th) all sit within the top 100 places worldwide. Aaron Cameron’s run of misfortune has seen him fall 34 places to 92nd.
The penultimate round of the 2024 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park from October 18-20, as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries.
