ANNOUNCEMENT – TCR AUSTRALIA SERIES RIGHTS HOLDER
The TCR Australia Series today confirms that a new category management rightsholder has been appointed.
A new entity led by respected international motorsport promoter David Sonenscher has assumed management of the series effective immediately (subject to Motorsport Australia approval).
The new rightsholder succeeds Australian Racing Group (ARG), which established the global touring car formula in Australia in 2019 and operated the series until 2024.
Sonenscher, a Malaysian-based, British native, is the founder of Motorsport Asia, a company which has established and managed the promotion of various national, regional and international motorsport competitions for almost 30 years.
Sonenscher is also the long-time promoter of the TCR Asia Series and has been integral in the development of TCR throughout the region. Additionally, Sonenscher is a full-time advisor to the TCR UK Series.
Sonenscher will work closely with existing and experienced TCR Australia management to operate the series, and will attend his first TCR Australia Series round at Taupo Motorsport Park in New Zealand from April 11-13.
The appointment of Sonenscher as category management rightsholder strengthens the connectivity of TCR Australia to the global TCR platform, and coincides with the return of the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour to Australia in 2025 and the series’ inaugural rounds outside Australia – specifically in New Zealand and a yet to be announced, second event in conjunction with the TCR World Tour.
David Sonenscher – TCR Australia Series Rights Holder
“I am proud to have the opportunity to manage TCR Australia, a series I have long regarded as one of the most competitive and professional of all TCR competitions throughout the world.
“The series is taking a new direction in 2025 on many fronts, and I am committed to working with the existing series management, the partners and suppliers who make the series happen, and of course, the TCR Australia teams to take the series further.”
