Field set for opening Kumho FIA TCR World Tour round in Mexico
The third edition of the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour will begin at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez partnering alongside TCR Mexico on May 2-3.
A field of 24 will take on the first round of which 11 are full-time Kumho FIA TCR World Tour entries representing four manufacturers.
Hyundai and Lynk & Co took the main title last year, but strong competition will come from Honda, while Cupra makes its maiden full-time appearance in 2025.
Defending Drivers’ champion Norbert Michelisz continues to lead Hyundai’s attack spearheaded by the Italian BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse operation.
Hyundai’s line-up is completed by regular race winners Nestor Girolami and Mike Azcona in a trio of Elantra N TCRs.
Swedish squad Cyan Racing continues to lead Lynk & Co’s efforts, which delivered the Teams’ Championship in 2024.
Cyan Racing remains unchanged, featuring previous world champions Yann Ehrlacher and Thed Bjork joined by rising stars Santiago Urrutia and Ma Qing Hua.
Honda’s representative GOAT Racing has decided on a mix of the experienced Esteban Guerrieri and exciting young gun Ignacio Montenegro in an all-Argentine attack. Montenegro has risen through TCR South America, TCR Spain and TCR Europe to perfectly display the pathway towards the top level.
The final full-time Kumho TCR World Tour team is SP Competition and will bring the Cupra Leon VZ TCR to the series.
French drivers John Filippi, who finished 11th in the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour last year, and Aurelien Comte. The second driver will be familiar to TCR Australia fans after debuting the Peugeot 308 TCR at the 2019 season finale hosted by Shell V-Power Motorsport Park, which welcomes the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour in September.
Integrating local competitors is key to the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour and TCR Mexico will run alongside the season opener.
After Mexico, rounds follow in Spain, Italy and Portugal, before the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour makes its return to Australian shores at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park on September 12-14.
The visit down under is followed by trips to South Korea, China and finally Macau as the traditional season finale, which doubles as the concluding round of TCR Australia.
All Kumho FIA TCR World Tour races will be live-streamed live via the TCR Series YouTube Channel.
