Proposed TCR World Ranking Final formats revealed

Two exciting concept formats have been revealed for the highly-anticipated TCR World Ranking Final set to be held at Vallelunga, Spain on November 21-23.

Open to 60 top ranked drivers according to the TCR World Rankings prior to the October 6 cut off, plus selected guest drivers can be invited.

Full-time Kumho FIA TCR World Tour entries will not be eligible in the 60 top ranked ‘main drivers’, but can be invited as a ‘guest’ for the Qualifying Race.

The two formats announced depend on the amount of entries received for the inaugural TCR World Ranking Final.

Format 1 is for up to 35 entries and will be a two-day event featuring two 45-minute practice sessions in addition to a qualifying session on the Saturday.

On Sunday, a 55-minute plus one lap Qualifying Race featuring a mandatory pit stop before the final at 65km distance to decide the top TCR driver in the world.

The second format for 36-60 entries is spread across three-day events tarting on Friday with one 45-minute practice session leading into Playoff Qualifying of 20-minutes for the three groups.

The Playoffs will consist of two groups of up to 40 entries to face off against each other.

Playoff Races follow on Saturday at 20-minutes for each group racing against each other. Total points from Playoff Qualifying and Races will decide the top 30 drivers to advance to Qualifying for the Final.

Format 2 now replicates the first on Sunday featuring the same 55-minute plus one lap Qualifying Race featuring mandatory pit stop and a Main Race at 65km.

Pit stops in the Qualifying Races will permit a minimum of two tyres to be changed and a compulsory driver change, but no refuelling.

The driver change is when the ‘guest drivers’ come in, but will only contest the Qualifying Race rather than the Playoffs, Final Qualifying and Main Race.

A ‘guest driver’ must drive for a minimum of 15-minutes in each practice session and the Qualifying Race.

Three TCR World Ranking Final prizes will be awarded to Drivers’, Teams’ and Manufacturers’.

Among the top drivers in the TCR World Rankings are Josh Buchan and Zac Soutar, who have both confirmed a return to TCR Australia this season.
