James Warburton joins ARG as Non-Executive Director

Motorsport promoter Australian Racing Group (ARG) is pleased to announce the appointment of James Warburton as a Non-Executive Director.

Mr Warburton will join the Board of ARG effective from today 27th March 2018.

A world-class executive with vast expertise in the media, marketing and advertising sectors, Mr Warburton has held senior leadership roles at media buying company Universal McCann, the diverse media organisation Seven Media Group, the television company Network 10 and the outdoor advertising group APN Outdoor.

Mr Warburton was also Chief Executive Officer of Supercars for five years, during which time he drove significant growth in the sport and delivered unprecedented broadcast, sponsorship and funding deals.

In his new role, Mr Warburton will represent the shareholders of ARG, which currently own the exciting new open wheel class S5000 and hold the promotion and commercial rights to the TCR Australia Series.

Mr Warburton said: “I’m excited about getting involved with ARG as it brings together my passion for motorsport, media, events and business. 

“The TCR Australia Series, in particular, is dynamic as well as being market and manufacturer relevant.

“It is targeted to a growing demographic and features cars people are buying and driving on a global basis. The Board of ARG is a very experienced and capable team and I look forward to working with them and assisting the business with executing its plans for growth and other commercial matters,” he said.

ARG Executive Chairman, John McMellan, said: “It is very pleasing to have someone of the profile, experience and capability of James join the ARG Board. 

“His appointment endorses the future plans for the business and James will be integral in assisting and guiding the delivery of those plans over the coming years.

“ARG currently has two new to market categories. The experience and skills that James brings will ensure we deliver a great product that is sustainable commercially and market relevant,” he said.

S5000 is set to be a world-class, high performance open wheel racing championship run in Australasia, boasting a brand-new FIA-approved chassis, with the V8 version being fully engineered and built in Australia.  It is the only V8 version globally and uses a powerful and cost-effective five-litre V8 engine and an all-Australian transmission system. The first batch of cars are currently being built at Garry Rogers Motorsport workshop in Dandenong, Victoria.

The TCR Series is a global racing platform with over 20 series running worldwide, offering cost-effective touring car racing for all front-wheel drive C-Segment hatchbacks or sedans with a capacity of up to two litres. Six brands of manufacturers are already confirmed for the series’ inaugural race in Australia.

The TCR Australia Series will debut at Sydney Motorsport Park on May 17-19, with all races to be broadcast live, free and in high-definition on SBS.
