New driver test day for TCR confirmed at Winton Raceway

Drivers keen to sample what the TCR Series is all about will have an opportunity next month as part of a driver test day at Winton Motor Raceway.

On the Monday following the next round of the carsales TCR Australia Series at Winton, all teams can remain at the circuit to complete a test day, allowing any new driver a chance step in and sample the two litre, turbo-charged tyros.

The test, to be held on Monday, September 2, is open to any driver who has not competed in a round of the TCR Australia Series this year, allowing potential new customers or series drivers to sample the cars and see what each team and the series has to offer.

Current TCR Australia drivers will be prohibited from driving on the day.

At this stage, Wall Racing, HMO Customer Racing and Garry Rogers Motorsport have committed to the test day.

Pit lane will be open from 9am to 4:30pm with a half hour lunch break at 12:30pm, offering plenty of track time on the day.

Category manager Liam Curkpatrick says that the test day has been instigated by the teams.

“The series has created strong interest, the close racing result in a great opportunity for drivers to hone their racecraft and potentially race internationally in the exact same machinery,” said Curkpatrick.

“Having the opportunity to compete on the world stage at the Australian F1 GP, coupled with the market place relevance of these cars makes this an exciting category that provides genuine opportunity – both commercially and for the driver.

“The test day is all about providing a chance to those that are considering racing in the category to sample it first hand.”
