Will Brown dominates Race 2 at Winton Raceway
Will Brown spanked his rivals to score the easiest of wins at Winton in race 2 of the carsales TCR Australia Series.
It took the Hyundai pilot less than two laps to dispose of first-race winner Bright in his Volkswagen Golf and then he was off and gone to extend his lead in the inaugural championship series.
Bright battled home in second while Aaron Cameron made the only major pass when he overtook Nathan Morcom to take the final podium place in his Golf.
“Slow down? Why would I do that? I was having fun,” Brown joked as he celebrated his Father’s Day win with his dad Shane.
“The car was amazing. Everything is good. Now I have to do it again.”
Bright jumped to the lead from the start but admitted he had no answer to Brown and his i30N.
“We’re not as quick on the straight so he could line me up. He got a bit of a run into turn three and that was it,” Bright said.
“Then I had to defend against Morcom in the other Hyundai. But I didn’t have Brown’s pace.”
There was nothing much to see at the front, but plenty of action in the battle packs.
Russell Ingall moved up three places in his Audi RS3 to finish fifth, battling with Andre Heimgartner in a Holden Astra, but Dylan O’Keefe faces a battle in race three after stopping from fifth for a fresh Michelin after a puncture in his Alfa Giulietta.
“I need to get back up there. The championship is not over yet,” he said.
There is only one race to go in the series for Molly Taylor, who has clashing rounds of the Australian Rally Championship for the final two TCR weekends, and she is hoping for a better sign-off after breaking a driveshaft in her Subaru Impreza.
