Aaron Cameron Race 2 wins makes for super tight title fight
Aaron Cameron has fifty thousand reasons to finish the carsales TCR Australia Series with a win.
He inflicted a rare defeat on series champion Will Brown in the second of three sprints at The Bend in South Australia to close within second place in the inaugural championship.
Cameron was pumped for the win but even happier to push himself into a last-race shoot-out with Tony D’Alberto for second in 2019.
“It’s great to finally get a win but the main goal is the $50,000 for runner-up,” says Cameron.
“There is one point in it now. I have to beat D’Alberto in the next one. We’ll do what we have to do.”
The second South Australian contest produced a tight battle at the front and some sensational action as Cameron and Brown both had monster moments at ‘The Threesome’, the high-speed series of right-handers at the back of the track.
“I thought I was gone. I was totally sideways down there,” says Brown.
“I saw you. I didn’t know what was going to happen. And then I did it too,” says Cameron.
Jordan Cox was also laughing after watching the action, and scoring his first podium place of the season.
“You blokes should be in rallycross,” he says.
“I’m happy. Finally. I got a podium.”
But D’Alberto is frustrated after a battle through to fifth with a Honda Civic that is lacking straight-line speed.
“I’ve got nothing. We’re so slow on the straight line,” D’Alberto says.
“It’s the same for me. Once we load them up with fuel we’ve got no pace. Hopefully it will be better in the last one,” says his team mate John Martin, who could only manage 11th place.
