HMO aims to expand entries in 2020

Inaugural TCR Australia Series champions HMO Customer Racing could run as many as four cars in the 2020 TCR Australia Series.

HMO, Hyundai Motorsport’s official Australian importer of its successful TCR machinery, is making plans to grow from two cars to three, or possibly four, after its success in the inaugural season that saw Will Brown claim the title honours.

While the make up of the driver line-up is not officially locked away, team owner Barry Morcom has his sights set on entering more cars if the right deals could be put together.

The team has recently secured another new i30 N racer that will take the total number of the vehicles in Australia up to six.

TCR Australia rules currently limit the total number of entered cars in any race meeting at five per brand, although Barry Morcom says that the intention of the new vehicle is simply to act as a spare.

“The sixth car has been ordered and is going to come into Australia around February next year,” said Morcom.

“The idea is that we will use this as a spare car, just in case one car gets damaged and can’t be turned around in time for the next event.

“We are geared up to run three cars. At a pinch we could do four, but we are comfortably ready to run three, and that is intention for next year. If we can get a couple of deals across the line, we will have three cars at a minimum on the grid.”

The HMO Customer Racing team was the dominant force in this year’s TCR Australia Series, with Brown claiming seven race wins, 15 podiums and nine fastest race laps.

Nathan Morcom added to the team’s success with victory in the last race of the year, finishing fourth in the points standings and helping the Sydney-based squad win the team’s title.

HMO Customer Racing will hold a ride day for fans and followers of the team later week, with demand for places on the day so strong that the team has been forced to add a second car to day.

Already close to 50 guests will get the chance to sample a ride from the passenger seat of the team’s Hyundai i30 N, driven by Brown and Morcom.
