Preparation key ahead of TCR Bathurst 400

Garry Rogers Motorsport’s Jason Bargwanna is expecting the TCR Bathurst 400 to be a gruelling affair in what will be the longest Supercheap Auto TCR Australia races ever contested.

Preparation is key for Bargwanna as he aims to replicate his race winning performance at Phillip Island earlier this year, the first for Peugeot in the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.

“Well, the first thing I realised was I had to get back to the gym and start working pretty hard,” he said.

“Advice to self, ‘don’t stop going to the gym during COVID’ because that really started hurting when I realised, we had nearly hour-long races.

“That’s going to be one of the biggest challenges.”

The Michelins will also be a talking point as throughout the season so far, degradation has varied significantly from model-to-model.

”We know the little Peugeots very strong, but we’ve got to make sure we get the tyre right and manage it over the period,” Bargwanna explained.

Having had success at the same event more than 20 years ago, Bargwanna is hoping to replicate it and believes the racing will be even closer compared to Easter.

“Racing anything at Bathurst is exciting,” said Bargwanna. “These cars are just electric across the top of the mountain and down the hill, plus the battles are going to be great.

“The temperatures will be a lot higher than when we were there in April so qualifying will be levelled out.

“There’s going to be some great racing from TCR, that’s for sure.

“We’ve had a race win this year, I’d love to finish the season off with a strong result and that for me is focusing on trying to win one of the races, if not the whole weekend.”

The season finale for Supercheap Auto TCR Australia is at Bathurst on November 30-December 4.
