Toyota achieves first pole and victory in Argentina
TCR’s newest homologated model, the Toyota Corolla GRS enjoyed a successful weekend at the Autodromo Oscar y Juan Galvez in Buenos Aires, Argentina last weekend where it clocked up its maiden pole and victory.
While Supercheap Auto TCR Australia contested its penultimate round at Sandown, TCR South America did likewise in Argentina where Jorge Barrio scored pole position against the likes of WTCR star Santiago Urrutia in a Lynk & Co 03 TCR.

Setting a time of 1m 19.917s, Barrio was fastest from Honda Civic Type R TCR driver Juan Angel Rosso, which followed up his hot pace in practice as teething problems did leave him mildly concerned.
“It’s nice to start a weekend on the right foot,” Barrio stated following practice. “The car was convincing but there are some little issues that leave me worried about the engine, though we still had the best time.”
Barrio dominated the opening race to take a 3s lights-to-flag victory to achieve Toyota’s first ever success in TCR competition in a promising sign from the new model.
Just like in Supercheap Auto TCR Australia, the second race features an inverted top 10 grid and Barrio progressed to sixth completing a strong second weekend for the Corolla GRS TCR.
The highly anticipated Corolla GRS TCR made its debut last month in an endurance race at Termas de Rio Hondo also in Argentina for an endurance event where it retired after 10 laps while holding sixth place.
Development of the Toyota is ongoing as there is a just one more round of TCR South America remaining at the Circuito San Juan Villicum, Albardon on October 8-9.
Meanwhile, the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International completes the season locally on November 11-13.
