When the new Audi debuted in Supercheap Auto TCR Australia
It’s nearly a year to the day AWC Racing MPC’s Jay Hanson drove his latest specification Audi RS3 LMS TCR to a debut victory at AWC Race Tasmania.
Transitioning from the Italian thoroughbred Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR of which he scored multiple podiums during his maiden campaign in 2021, Hanson was determined to make an impact with his new Audi.
It was a frantic build up for Melbourne Performance Centre as it welcomed the new Audi in the week leading into AWC Race Tasmania last year.
Hanson qualified second in the Audi’s first Astrontech Qualifying battle, before making a perfect jump to take the lead and finish with a comfortable victory on the model’s Australian debut.
Proving it was no fluke, Hanson took Astrontech Pole Position at the very next round at Phillip Island, as he achieved the RS3 LMS TCR’s second win later in the day.
The young Victorian ended the season achieving four race wins, three podiums and nine fastest laps in a stunning maiden campaign for the new second generation Audi RS3 LMS TCR.
Impressive privateer Zac Soutar will change his allegiance from Honda to Audi for this year’s Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series as he aims to replicate Hanson’s success in the second generation RS3 LMS TCR.
The opening round of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will commence at AWC Race Tasmania on February 24-26.
