Will Brown turns the tables in second practice at AWC Race Tasmania
MPC Team LIQUI MOLY’s Will Brown has ended the opening day of competition for Supercheap Auto TCR Australia on top of the timesheets at AWC Race Tasmania.
The inaugural series winner from 2019 lapped Symmons Plains in 56.082s in his Audi RS3 LMS TCR Gen2 to break HMO Customer Racing young gun Bailey Sweeny’s stranglehold on the top spot, although the Hyundai i30 N TCR driver placed second, 0.117s in arrears.
Burson Auto Parts Racing’s Ben Bargwanna continued his impressive pace to be third and lead the Garry Rogers Motorsport Peugeot quartet, just ahead of Aaron Cameron in his Team Valvoline GRM entry in fourth.
Tufflift Racing’s Zac Soutar dropped from third in the early session to fifth driving the new Audi RS3 LMS TCR Gen2 as Schaeffler GRM’s Jordan Cox recovered from an earlier gremlin in opening practice to follow the privateer in sixth.
Reigning series winner Tony D’Alberto was seventh in the Honda Wall Racing Civic Type R TCR from Kody Garland’s Valvoline Racing GRM Peugeot, Autoglym ASM’s Tom Oliphant driving the sole Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR and last minute addition Lachlan Mineeff in the lead Audi RS3 LMS TCR Gen1.
Rounding out the runners were Iain McDougall and Josh Buchan in what is the Hyundai Elantra (i30 Sedan N) TCR’s maiden appearance on the Apple Isle.
Carl Cox Motorsport’s Michael Clemente failed to set a lap time.
Qualifying is up next for Supercheap Auto TCR Australia tomorrow at 1:20pm AEDT.
