New TCR models undergo homologation process
The two latest models to join the TCR category are undergoing the homologation procedure ahead of debuts later this season.
JAS Motorsport’s new challenger, the Honda Civic Type R FL5 TCR alongside the Lynk & Co’s updated 03 TCR are going through the process of being certified by the WSC Group’s Technical Department.
Both models have gone through the tests assessing downforce and drag at noted design house Pininfarina’s wind tunnel in Grugliasco, Italy. The testing involves setting the rear wing in different configurations.
Before the wind tunnel tests, the engines from both models underwent bench-testing using the facilities at ORAL Engineering in Modena.
In the coming days the parameters for the Balance of Performance regarding each model is set to be revealed.
The world debut for the Honda is set to be at the opening round of TCR UK by reigning series winners Restart Racing. Driver Chris Smiley will defend the title in the new model starting at the opening round at Snetterton on April 8-9.
“I’m really excited for the start of the season, more so than any other I think,” Smiley said. “Last year was a step into the unknown, while this year it’s a very different feeling going in as the champion, and knowing there will be a target on your back, but it’s an exciting feeling.
“I’m also very happy that we’ll be racing the brand-new Honda Civic Type R this year. We developed a great relationship with the Honda car builders JAS in Italy last year, and now we’ve been entrusted with the racing debut of this stunning new car – I can’t wait to hit the track at Snetterton and seeing what it can do.”
The Lynk & Co’s debut is expected to be at the opening Kumho TCR World Tour round at Portimao, Portugal as part of TCR Europe on April 28-30 where Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series race winner Ben Bargwanna will contest his maiden overseas event.
